THLG obtained a favorable settlement in the defense of a national grocery store chain in a slip and fall case in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (click here for full details).

As a result of a store fall-down, the plaintiff claimed a right medial meniscal tear and resultant partial medial meniscectomy and synovectomy, despite reporting no immediate post-occurrence knee complaints.  The plaintiff’s claimed medical bills exceeded $75,000.  The defense secured the surveillance video of the occurrence and obtained favorable opinions from an orthopedic surgeon, who called into question the causation of the plaintiff’s fall and claimed injury.  The case settled for an amount well-below the claimed medical bills.
